HELPING YOUR STAFF HELP THEMSELVES...

“If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day.?If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime."

The same applies to helping your staff help themselves!

There are many ways to ensure your staff, new to their job or not,?feel confident and empowered to accomplish their role or function:

Assign a mentor.

Having a go-to person for questions, comments, and concerns comforts new or old employees and help combat nerves associated with starting a new job, a new task, a new role, or even a management position.

Offer and promote development opportunities.

Offer training and skills development regularly. Should any staff do training/skill improvement outside of the workplace, praise them, thank you for using their initiative to self-improve and publicly acknowledge them.

Welcome all staff feedback.

Whether negative or positive, staff feedback needs to be heard by the management of your business. Even though some of the input won’t bring about change, acknowledgement goes a long way and employees feel appreciated.

Be MIA (sometimes).

Sometimes the best way to create self-sufficient employees is by being unavailable, as it forces employees to figure things out on their own once in a while.
