Helping Others
In my previous post titled "Choice to Make", I spoke about my past and that coming out of it, there was a choice to make - continue to be a victim or break out of the cycle and help others. I have chosen the later. There are only a few things that truly bring me joy. And there is one that is above all others. It is seeing what is in someone else and calling it out of them.
We are all broken in one way or another. It may be from words spoken over us ("you aren't smart enough", "why can't you be more like your brother/sister", "no one likes you"...) or a lashing out (physical or sexual abuse) or any number of events. There are wounds that we often aren't aware of that block us from moving forward. This breaks my heart! I *hate* seeing someone that doesn't realize they are beautiful, someone who fully believes they have nothing to offer, a person that laughs on the outside but is only weeping on the inside. I am drawn to these people and am almost always able to see through the mask that most of us wear to hide our true selves.
In truth, for whatever reason, people take their masks off when they are around me. This has always been the case. When I was a child, not even a teenager, adults were confessing to me, seeking my advise on things like relationships. Really? I still don't fully comprehend it but I welcome the transparency. Why? Because it enables me to do what I love. I see beyond the pain that is being shared and see into the unique beauty that exists within.
Because of this, I will sometimes forgo the "healthy" connection to draw out the amazing within others, to play my part in their healing. Seeing others blossom, this is where I find my joy.
In this virtual world of "connections" and "friends", what do you you have to lose? Are you afraid of rejection from people that you have never actually met or worked with? Where does your joy come from? What are you doing to call it out?
Step out of your comfort zone and be there for others. Paying it forward is one of the few ways to truly revolutionize this world we all live in.
BTW, I have in no way "arrived" myself. This is a continuous journey for us all.

9 年Great blog and thanks for sharing. I for one love to pay it forward and do it in a way I love, which is to volunteer for charities in my area namely Habitat for Humanity in Paterson, New Jersey and Jersey Cares in Newark, New Jersey. Taking time from my day to help others, even if it is only for a few hours, I hope has those that are receiving the benefit, feeling happy.
