A Helping Hand ????

Yesterday, I offered my time to help anyone that needed it. I met 4 great contractors shared some support on how to secure a new role. I felt this maybe worth sharing so wanted to share in the hope it helps just one person find or accept a role.
Please be warned, this is just my opinion and an honest overview of the market from my position.
It’s a very tiring process to secure a new role for many at the moment so here are my top 3 tips:
?? Please share any other top tips to offer support. Recruiter contacts more than welcome to add your current findings also.
1?? Only about a 1/3 interim roles are filled by a recruiter who perform a full and proper search. A client won't need to use a recruiter if they don't have to. Most hiring managers will fill roles through their own network.
- So focus on your network, who do you know, who do your contacts know and who can your contacts recommend to you.
- Be cheeky, ask the question - they can only say no
-Networking events are important. Meet new people and start conversations.
2?? Your LinkedIn page and CV should describe what specifically you do in 5 seconds.
-It should also be consistent in job title and project as much as possible.
- Realise your key specialism. This needs to be more specific than Project Management or Consulting. It has to be a type of change, organisation or type of change.
-Then look to expose that within your network. Take an entrepreneurs approach to winning business, dedicate yourself to networking and approaching clients that may benefit from your specialism. Target individuals who will appreciate your specialism. Most of all, target particular companies who will benefit from your knowledge recently working at a competitor.
3?? Consider Supply and Demand. If you run a business and sell a product and the value of that product drops, it would be bad business to continue selling at the old price. I think it’s important to take this view.
-Within reason, try and stay busy. Whether that means taking something short term, taking on a course or even helping out a friend for free. All experience is good experience.
Finally, a reliance on adverts and recruiters will likely lead to dead ends and disappointment currently. This has effected recruiters in the same way it has contractors. Take confidence in the fact this is the market and many many others are in the same place, it has nothing to do with your capability, reputation or skill set,
I hope someone finds this useful and happy to offer further support where I can if anyone requires.
Many thanks,
Thomas
