The New Zealand transport and logistics industry is a vital sector driving the nation's economy. However, it also comes with inherent risks, with workers facing a higher-than-average incidence of workplace injuries. Recognizing this challenge, the NZ Trucking Association (NTA) has taken a commendable step forward by launching its Recovery at Work (RAW) programme. This free program, available through the HARMfree Transport and Logistics online portal, empowers employers to support their injured team members on their path to recovery.
Understanding the Need: A High-Risk Industry
The transport and logistics industry involves physically demanding tasks, long hours on the road, and exposure to potential hazards. Statistics reveal a higher prevalence of workplace injuries in this sector compared to others. These injuries can range from musculoskeletal disorders to more serious accidents. The consequences can be significant, causing physical pain, emotional distress, lost income, and reduced productivity for both employees and businesses.
The RAW Solution: Focused Support for Recovery
The NTA's RAW programme represents a much-needed initiative to address this challenge. Developed with input from industry stakeholders and funded by ACC's 2023/2024 Innovation Fund, the RAW program offers a comprehensive approach to supporting injured transport workers.
