Helping foster youth find their way

The problem is access, not apathy.

C’reer is already helping young people navigate career and education options. Next, we are developing a solution for the 500,000 foster children in our country within C'reer that will match them with apprenticeships, careers and higher education options best suited for them.

Their circumstances make them the least likely to get to college of anyone in our country. We very much want to help, but need your support to develop this solution.

We've launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo with a goal to raise $30,000 in 40 days. The funds will go towards aggregating data on apprenticeships and college programs geared to help students making the transition from the foster system to post secondary. I have already begun working with some key government agencies and many universities around the country to collaborate and access this information. There are no structured databases or APIs. This will be development by elbow grease.

We'll engineer all that data into C'reer and redesign parts of the user interface for them then execute on a go to market plan with partners in foster services. It's no small feat. But at the end, we'll have the first mobile app ever designed specifically to help foster children find their way and help the 30,000 foster children who age out of the system every year.

If I'm going to spend my brainpower, time and money on something, this is it.

As the first board member of iFoster, I've personally seen the impact access to information and technology can make on a young person's life. Through iFoster's technology program, I see the overwhelming gratitude for a refurbished device from foster children around the country. This a problem of access, not apathy.

We can solve for access. I hope you'll help us. Because if we don't fix this, who will?
