Helping Financial Advisors Understand the Four Phases of Retirement

I was honoured to be invited to speak at last week's Annual Conference of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) in San Diego, California on their 40th Anniversary.

NAPFA is the country’s leading professional association of Fee-Only financial advisors—highly trained professionals who are committed to working in the best interests of those they serve. The organization got its start in 1983 and now provides support and education for more than 4,400 practitioners all over the United States.

This forward-thinking group is very much aware of the fact that there’s more to financial and retirement planning than the historic emphasis on the ’numbers’ (investments, asset allocation, tax efficiency, wills, estate, probate)—as important as these items are. This year's conference theme—Reflect, Connect, Perfect—dovetailed nicely with the themes contained in my Workshop: The Four Phases of Retirement; How To Squeeze All The ‘Juice’ Out of Retirement.

In the Workshop, I help participants create an action plan for moving forward to a more satisfying and fulfilling future. I show participants how to determine which Phase of Retirement they’re in currently, as well as how to identify their Unique Ability, their life’s High Points, and their Sweet Spot. NAPFA members and financial advisors in general understand that the psychological changes and challenges that almost always accompany retirement must be addressed in their clients’ best interests. They were very receptive to my message.
