Helping companies match with job seekers based on shared values

Helping companies match with job seekers based on shared values

Even as the economy has its ups and downs, one thing is clear: companies must still invest in their employer brand - your company's reputation and what it stands for - to attract and retain top talent. Nearly all (87%) professionals in the US say that working for an organization that demonstrates a commitment to culture and values is important*, and we see that on LinkedIn as well: companies that list core values like culture, flexibility, and well-being in their job postings get up to 3X more views globally over the past two years.?

While companies may think their employer brand isn't as important during a hiring slowdown, this isn't the case. As the pendulum will inevitably swing back to a strong hiring market, it's critical that companies consistently invest in their employer brand to keep their talent pipeline strong.?

To help companies do this, I'm excited to share that today we're rolling out new updates to our commitments feature that allows companies to showcase their culture and values.?

Find candidates with shared values faster with updates to our commitments feature

We found that an overwhelming majority (98%) of hiring managers in the US say showcasing their organization’s commitments to culture and values can help them find and hire the right candidates, but almost one-quarter (23%) of hiring managers say they don't have the right channels or resources to do so.?

That’s why we're building on the initial launch of our commitments feature so that your company's commitments - such as work-life balance, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), career growth and learning, social impact, and environmental sustainability - will now automatically show up in the Job Details when you post a job. And you can now choose to share your company’s commitments on your LinkedIn feed too. We’re also introducing a new job search filter so job seekers can easily discover open roles at your organization based on these commitments.

And to provide a pipeline of warm talent, even if you're not hiring right now, we're rolling out a new “I’m interested” button that will help you track job seekers that are interested in working at your company. Now, if a job seeker clicks the “I’m interested” button on your LinkedIn Page , it will automatically share the job seeker’s LinkedIn Profile in a new Spotlights tab in Recruiter, making it easier to identify engaged candidates for current and future open roles.

What's even more exciting is that since we launched this feature in October, tens of thousands of companies globally have added commitments to their company pages, and we expect this to continue to grow.?

“At Noodles & Company, creating a strong culture rooted in DEI, social impact, and career growth is our top priority and we want to work with people who also share these values,” said Sue Petersen , EVP of Inclusion, Diversity and People at Noodles & Company. “That's why we added these commitments to our LinkedIn Page to help us showcase what our company stands for. In fact, since we started showcasing our culture and values, we've heard directly from candidates that it's the reason they chose to apply to our company."?

Showcase your culture and values throughout the hiring process?

Of course, highlighting your culture and values is more than just adding it to your LinkedIn Page or job description, it's about showcasing it throughout the hiring process. Here are a few things we do at LinkedIn and some tips for building in your values throughout the talent acquisition process:

  • Bring your culture to life on LinkedIn. Before a candidate applies to a job, they will likely check out your company’s page. Make sure your page highlights the unique elements of your culture and values and what makes your company stand out among others. This could be photos of a company wellness day, employee and leader perspectives on how you bring your values to life or examples of day-to-day life at your company.
  • Have diverse interview panels. Most companies say that diversity, inclusion and belonging is a core value. But it’s important to show it, not just say it. At LinkedIn, we always aim to have diverse interview panel slates to show that DEI is ingrained in our company culture from a candidate's first touch point with LinkedIn.?
  • Highlight your company culture throughout the interview. Surprisingly, nearly two-thirds (62%) of hiring managers in the US say they don’t talk about their company culture during the interview. But this is exactly the time to talk about it. Don't be shy about weaving in anecdotes and examples of how your culture comes to life during the interview and starting the conversation with your company's vision, mission and values.

To further help companies know how to talk about their company culture and values, we’re offering free LinkedIn Learning courses until June 9, 2023 including:?

Many companies love to think they are well-advanced in these areas, BUT the only way to tell you is to hear your staff and clients promote you as this. Don't promote it yourself. It's essential to see follow-through on diversity and flexibility. You must back it up if you say that your business does these things. Diverse interview panels are a fantastic way to show this, but back it up with diversity in the leadership team...
