Helping to Build a Better World

Helping to Build a Better World

Last year, Amgen reached some 10 million patients around the world with our medicines, helping to prevent or treat serious illnesses like heart disease and cancer.?While we are clearly having a positive impact, we understand that society is increasingly interested in not just what companies do, but how they do it.?Our latest Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report highlights the many ways that Amgen is acting as a responsible corporate citizen.?Here are a few examples:

  • We are reducing the barriers that prevent too many patients from getting the medicines they need.?Last year in the U.S., for example, we provided $2.2 billion worth of Amgen medicines at no cost to uninsured or underinsured patients*.??
  • We are making significant progress toward our goal of achieving carbon neutrality in our operations by 2027, along with a 40% reduction in water used and a 75% reduction in waste generated*.
  • We are inspiring the next generation of innovators and leveling the scientific playing field through a number of world-class, no-cost science education programs supported by the Amgen Foundation*.?These programs reached 23 million students and teachers last year worldwide.??
  • We are building a more diverse and inclusive culture at Amgen .?Today, for example, more than half of Amgen staff around the world participate in one or more employee resource groups.?These ERGs provide valuable insights to our business as we serve an increasingly diverse group of patients, and offer personal and professional support to their members.
  • We are a founding member of the OneTen Coalition, which aims to hire one million Black Americans who do not have a four-year college degree into family-sustaining careers over the next ten years.

This is just a small sample of the good work that we’re doing.?I invite you to take a closer look at our report.?#mycompany

* Valued at wholesale acquisition cost

* Carbon neutrality goal refers to Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Reductions take into account only verified reduction projections, do not take into account changes associated with the contraction or expansion of the Company, and are measured against a 2019 baseline.

* The Amgen Foundation, Inc. is a separate legal entity entirely funded by Amgen.
