Helpers Need Help

Just came across the latest insights from The Fraser Institute's annual study: Generosity in Canada - The 2023 Generosity Index - The Fraser Institute's annual study: Generosity in Canada - The 2023 Generosity Index. The findings reveal a concerning trend - the percentage of Canadians donating to charity, relative to all tax filers, has hit a 20-year low. Furthermore, the total amount donated has dropped from 0.58% in 2001 to 0.55% in 2021.

In light of our current economic state, this decline isn't entirely unexpected, but it does have significant implications. Charities, which play a vital role in addressing societal needs, are grappling with reduced funds to carry out their impactful work. What's more, a drop of up to 35% in volunteers post-covid exacerbates the challenge.

As someone deeply involved in social impact, working with incredible groups like Parachutes For Pets, HEROS Hockey, Kidsport Calgary, YES Sports, and others, this news hits close to home. These organizations rely on the generosity of others to fund essential programs, and the decline in donations poses a real threat to their ability to make a difference.

Here's my personal call to action: Let's urge our funding institutions to reevaluate the way we distribute funds to charities and charitable organizations. The hoops these groups are asked to jump through are often antiquated and unnecessary. It's time to streamline the process, ensuring that vital resources reach those who need them most efficiently.

Together, let's champion a culture of giving and support that empowers charities to continue their incredible work. #GenerosityIndex #SocialImpact #CharityMatters #CommunitySupport
