One of the top insights Susan Jungerman, bestselling author of Stop Your Toddlers Tantrums: A Mother’s Guide to Finding Joy in Parenting discussed how children are a reflection of what we show them. Think about it? What are parents of terrible two-year-olds going through? We are exhausted because without a guidebook, we are doing everything we did before, plus we are chasing our valuable little ones around to keep them safe; overwhelmed trying to get everything done and care for our loved, little ones and feeling like no one understands what we are going through. This is exactly what two-year-olds are facing, as well. They are trying new things and failing and falling without the ability to articulate clearly what is going on and what they need.

Another big ‘aha’ moment for me was when Susan spoke about how when we look at our reflection and seek change, we have to remember we cannot change the reflection to change ourselves. Rather, we have to change what is causing the reflection. Essentially, if we desire change, it has to be within ourselves. When we can change ourselves it will reflect not only what we see in the mirror and experience in our lives, but also in those around us who reflect back to us what we show them….including our children.
