Help Us Plant 4,000 Trees and Empower Future Environmental Leaders

Most people often hear me talking about my grandmother, but one aspect I rarely mention is her traditional profession as an herbal doctor. When I was young, my siblings and I would venture into the bush to gather herbal plants for her. Witnessing the hundreds of people who sought her healing gave me hope and pride in her gift.

A Growing Concern for Nature

As my grandmother aged, she grew increasingly concerned about the destruction of indigenous trees due to charcoal production and farming. She once warned me that a day would come when humanity would desperately seek the lost wonders of nature. Sadly, her prophecy has come true, as we now face devastating floods and droughts.

Inspiration for EduGreen: The Importance of Nurturing Trees

Inspired by my grandmother's experience, I aimed to create a space where young people could learn to care for nature. Through Kosi Africa and the EduGreen project, we offer primary and secondary school students in Kenya the chance to contribute to reforesting the world. By planting trees, they also fund their own education. What many don't realize is that we not only encourage people to plant trees but also emphasize the importance of nurturing them. Most seedlings fail to survive because no one takes care of them. EduGreen addresses this by having students adopt and grow a seedling, fostering a generation of environmental leaders.

EduGreen’s Upcoming Initiative

From July 1st to 6th, we will visit 20 schools in Busia County, Western Kenya, through our Empowerwave Program. One of our key activities is to plant 200 indigenous trees in each school, with 200 students committed to nurturing these seedlings. Our goal is to plant 4,000 indigenous seedlings, enhancing school environments and securing a greener future.
