St Bride Foundation launches ‘Foster-A-Book’

Many of you will be aware St Bride Foundation is a charity, which housed the original print school and technical library and opened its doors on 23 February 1891 to serve the community of Fleet Street and the surrounding area. 

St Bride Library has one of the world’s most remarkable collections of books and artifacts celebrating the history of print in all its glory.  It has been an incredible, irreplaceable resource for past generations and we now need to ensure it grows and develops for future generations of printers and designers.  

The Heritage Lottery Fund hopes to support the Foundation going forward with much needed funds to bring the building back to its former glory. To begin restoration however, the Foundation needs to conduct surveys and produce plans. So, a new campaign has been  launched to help raise ￡125,000. 

The first two books have been fostered by Imprint MIS and Clicks Print. 

Glennys Bourne, director at Imprint, said: ‘Anyone associated with print must be fascinated by both the historic building and the amazing collection of books and artifacts at St Bride – and the curators are still enthusiastically unveiling more! 

‘All of us at Imprint are proud and excited to be associated with the Foundation and to support the restoration of St Bride and its contents. It isn’t often that one gets a chance to personally influence the protection and development of such a valuable and relevant heritage. 

‘We hope that the St Bride Foundation will receive all the support it needs to raise the money for the campaign and become eligible for the Heritage Lottery Fund, which will enable them to go forward with the restoration.’
