?? National Diabetes Awareness Month is coming up, especially significant to my family this year. On November 14th, I will join our youngest son, Emmet O’Sullivan, and many other families to help find a cure for this disease. Emmet is being honored with the 2024 Perseverance Award at the C3 gala in support of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation . We'd love to welcome you to the event if you can join us in NYC. We promise it'll be a hopeful, uplifting evening. If you can't join us in person, I'm asking that you consider donating ( link https://e.givesmart.com/events/DNA/ ) to support The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF). The institute was created with a single purpose–to cure diabetes. By supporting this gala, you are helping raise money to continue the momentum of this important work.
??Emmet O’Sullivan (17), was diagnosed with type one diabetes (T1D) in 2020–a disease for which there is currently no cure. Millions of individuals live with T1D worldwide. Many suffer life-threatening complications, and many struggle to pay for life-saving insulin.
?? We are grateful that Emmet has access to quality healthcare and essential insulin. For all people living with T1D, this is a 24/7 disease. There are no vacations from T1D. Every day, I witness Emmet managing his insulin intake with food, sports, study, sleep, and all the routine activities that many of us take for granted. Every day, I appreciate the researchers' commitment to finding a cure for this cruel disease.
??? I’m in awe of how Emmet manages his condition and has become an advocate for the T1D community by writing Drew Discovers Diabetes and volunteering his lived experience to various dedicated diabetes organizations. On November 14th, this honor is an opportunity to spotlight T1D and ask for your help to support the DRIF. While we'd especially love to see you in NYC, we appreciate all donors (all amounts are meaningful to us).

Heartfelt thank you to every organization and individual working in the diabetes community for your unrelenting work on the many concerns and considerations facing people with diabetes–type one and type 2 diabetes. This is an extraordinarily collaborative ecosystem of organizations–large and small. Thank you to Emmet’s medical professionals, friends, family, teachers, and the community who help him manage his condition. Thanks to everyone who bought Emmet's book, "Drew Discovers Diabetes," and helped promote it with Amazon reviews or shared it.
