Help UMass NSBE attend the 48th Annual Convention!
My name is Aliyah Nisbett and I am the President of the University of Massachusetts Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers!
In March 2022, the 48th annual National Society of Black Engineers Annual Convention will take place in Anaheim, California. At the convention, thousands of Black engineers from all across the nation unite together to learn and grow from one another. The convention is an amazing opportunity for NSBE students to kickstart their professional careers and represent their institution.?
Every year, a handful of UMass NSBE members attend the NSBE Annual Convention and network with professionals from major companies and 20,000 other NSBE members from all over the country. Students also get to attend professional development workshops and a career fair where full-time jobs and summer internship opportunities are offered. Attending this convention helps us achieve our mission statement of helping black engineering students to succeed professionally and academically while positively impacting their community.?
This year, our goal is to bring 35 members of our community to the convention. This would be the largest attendance UMass Amherst NSBE has ever had. It will also be the first in-person convention for all of our NSBE members. Although there is clear interest from our members, attending the convention is costly. Due to our limited University funding, paying for registration, transportation, hotels, and plane tickets is a challenge. Although our organization has run several fundraisers, such as tabling at the student union, selling business headshots, and raffling, we are still far from our goal.?

In light of the recent anti-Black racist incidents at UMass Amherst targeting African Americans and Black students, the NSBE Chapter at UMass is working to not let these recent events dictate the experience of Black Students on campus. In view of this, we are thankful for those who have shown their solidarity to the students at UMass Amherst NSBE. As many have asked concerning the several ways to support, we are accepting donations to help us attend the Annual Convention. Every dollar you donate will go towards making sure as many UMass NSBE members as possible can attend the convention.
