Help Students Transition To Remote Learning

Help Students Transition To Remote Learning

Lynn Bentley, President of Knobull, Inc. said, “Collaboration is key to everything we do at Knobull.com and nothing highlighted this better than the transition to remote learning during lockdown! The recent increase in remote learning offered great opportunities for wider peer-to-peer learning: learners from different campuses, institutions, even countries, can now be sharing, uncovering information, curating and creating together, using the Knobull Learning Center with Research Engine, that doesn’t track users, support.”

“Not only does our Web App encourage the development of professional communication and networks but it also helps to maintain a presence and the development of critical thinking skills. The Messageboard facilitate discussions, rather than taking a didactic approach to delivery where learners are often passive and can instead begin to focus on the development of 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, social and cross-cultural interaction and productivity. Additionally, the Instant Answer, Student News, Academic Resources pages and Blog articles further support this collaborative platform.”

The Knobull Mission is to move academic and career success forward with brave and productive collaboration. We can change education and industries for the better when we come together and speak up. At Knobull.com students can talk openly and freely with any fellow student or educator to positively influence academic and career success. Knobull is a place to feel at ease, exchange ideas, advise and support because everyone is in it together.

We’re facilitating the education conversation and putting students and experts on a level playing field! You can talk straight with others, bond with students that have common challenges, share relatable moments with others who get where you’re at, get advise to lighten your load and post an academic or career question. Make sure you carve time out for yourself. If you feel burnt out - take some time to refresh.

Knobull is a personal research librarian and education coach that guides student’s use of information to maximize academic and career success. Our state-of-the-art research engine web app, let’s students securely apply the knowledge gained with “no bull“ so you can “know more“. Knobull collects, organizes and classifies education and research materials relevant to most areas of education specialization without capturing your personal data. Knobull seamlessly provides online research, student collaboration, access to electronic databases, student news and research information. Query this link at any time day or night and the Knobull team will become your personal Emergency Education Technician.

The team’s student-centered approach to academic support has been greatly appreciated by students throughout the country. They value the intentionality behind the design of this support system.  The direct collaboration opportunities that occur between the Knobull team and students demonstrates that the team’s commitment to coaching and learning encourages success in the classroom, future career and greater community.

While facilitating wholly remote learning, Knobull ensures that community channels are available across the student population and within user groups to enable learners to build on the vital social aspect of their time. Feedback from students confirms that community channels, or a small amount of time for informal conversation allocated before classes, enables learning to be more focused.

Support is given to help teachers and learners develop enhanced communication skills: neither can rely on non-verbal cues to address misunderstandings or observe needs or disengagement. Time management and workload can be a challenge in asynchronous classes with learners expecting to be online at any time, so students cannot predict when heavier workloads will occur.

With Knobull’s support, students can be working on live, co-created remote projects in conjunction with industry, mapped against current skill capabilities. In turn, this has offered the opportunity to develop real-time problem-solving tasks and offers acute insight into what is currently happening in their chosen industry. In addition, the remote intern learners can holistically develop softer employability skills that will now be required as we move into a new way of working – cloud-based digital skills, time management, and the importance of a healthy work/life balance.

A blended learning approach offers a fantastic opportunity to accomplish multiple results. The Knobull team has found that when the learning experience is approached much more as a constructive participatory experience where learners develop meaning from what they learn, it supports application to the real world and employment.

The new normal prepares us for the movement away from inconsistent approaches, environments and learning methods. Methods of support which prop up the simple transmission of content are already under scrutiny so Knobull seeks to promote the development of knowledge, skills and actions of learners: what do learners know (knowledge) that they didn’t before, and how well can they demonstrate (skills) it but also how well do they understand that progress in order to be able to apply it for the setting for which they have trained (behaviour)? This fine balancing act is at the heart of the challenge for most educators today.

Bentley concludes, “In all circumstances, the additional use of technology-enabled learning should help student’s achieve their academic and career goals. A blended learning model facilitated by the Knobull team is the best approach for each particular academic and career topic/outcome sought.”
