It’s frustrating when you take the time to create great content but still fail to engage readers. The Internet is flooded with information on how to make your content better, but just because you make these changes doesn’t mean your content will automatically start pulling people in. Great content is only half the picture. You must also speak to your audience in the right tone, provide material on topics your audience wants to read about and share your content in the right places.
Here are a few tips and tricks to help your content get read and enjoyed by more people. Getting out of this slump IS possible.
How fast is your content loading?
When a person clicks on your blog because the title sounds interesting, or they are doing research and find your headline relevant, it’s important for the blog to load quickly. If it doesn’t come up right away, they’re likely to hit the back button and move on in their search. It’s said that you lose 20% of your visitors for every second it takes for your site to load over 1.5 seconds.
Do you have a responsive web design?
One of the best ways to ensure your content loads fast is by having a responsive web design. This means your site looks great on all devices, and it’s naturally mobile friendly. This leads to better user experiences with content that is clean, easy to read and easy to navigate.
Is your font large and well-spaced?
Keep in mind that many people are reading your content on small mobile devices, so it helps to bump up your font and choose something larger and well spaced. This is especially helpful for older readers who certainly won’t enjoy squinting through your entire post. Also make sure your content matches your brand. You can always ask your web designer to find a typography for you.
How well do you know your audience?
It doesn’t matter how well written your content is if it’s not aimed at the right audience. Do your research and find out what types of questions your audience is asking Google. You can use this information to craft your blog content. It also helps to see what your competitors are doing and what topics generate a lot of interest on their blogs. Repurpose the topics and put your own spin on them.
Do you have a content editorial calendar?
So many companies dish out content on whatever topic comes to mind, but this is not the right approach. Each month, you should have an editorial calendar that marks out the days you plan to send out content, where it will be posted and what the topic will be about. This helps you stay organized, write on varied topics and create audience-focused material that is valuable for readers.
