A few weeks ago I was driving with a buddy of mine and he had asked me if I am going to let my kids drive my car and I laughed and said no chance! By then I will have a different car. Unfortunately, I was wrong! My son will be getting his drivers permit in about a year and yes I am very worried!
I am not sure:
- He has the hand eye coordination to drive!
- He has the attention span to drive!
- He is mature enough to drive!
Have you experienced this yet?
- Help!! If you have gone through this please, please send me some helpful hints!
- How nervous were you?
- Do you have a funny story about the process that you could share?
I look forward to reading your comments.

9 年Drivers Ed course is the way to go! My kids listened so much better to a stranger. They are professionals and know all sorts of tricks and tips I never thought of. In addition, we got the added benefit of having a much lower insurance rate then we would have had with parent taught. Drivers Ed paid for itself in four months of savings. By the time they were driving with me they were much better than I expected they would be. However, it's always hard emotionally, no way around that.

9 年Merrill, I highly recommend having your child take a driver's training course. I raised four kids. The older two, learned to drive by driving. The younger two took a driver's training course, and then still had hours to drive while I was in the car with them. Taking the course made everything about learning to drive much easier for the younger two, and I was happy to see them learn more about safety and laws then came up in the hours of driving with me, or their father. For peace of mind, as an insurance agent, I suggest that you make sure you have adequate insurance coverage, on all of your vehicles, while adding your child to your policy as a driver. If something should go wrong, the last thing you and your child need is the burden of financial debt. Learning to drive is a huge step toward being an adult and independence. My four were ready for this. They each bought their own beat up used car, once they were able to drive without supervision. Being able to drive allowed them to be able to have a job and learn more about handling money. Their own job, their own car, their own money... Val [email protected] TexasInsuranceAgentVal.com
