HELP Lester!
GOOD NEWS! I am not sure I can write this without tears of relief and sadness for Lester but our visit with Dr. Kevin Gannon to see Lester today was very encouraging. The fear was that Lester was brain dead and there was nothing more that could be done for him. Although Lester will never have a full recovery, today we witnessed Lester responding with his opinion on subjects that related to his treatment options. We learned that as nice and professional as Dr. Kevin Gannon is, Lester would prefer a pretty young lady examining him. ;)
Due to your efforts and support, Lester now has a nice medical bed, a screen from the bugs, diapers, better treatment options for the bed rash and Dr. Kevin prescribed some more things to help Lester. His exam of Lester was very encouraging and better than expected. Lester is very alert, his liver is not failing and he seems to be eating well and in fairly good overall condition according to Dr. Kevin Gannon. We need your continued resources and support to help this little boy.
In reviewing the treatment and the medicines, it appears that Lester is getting the best resources available. This illness is not something that can be cured but we still may be able to help Lester's condition to improve his quality of life. Both Dr. Kevin Gannon and Dr. Fallas, Lester's primary doctor are in support of the sea water therapy to get Lester doing something more than laying on the deathbed.
Things we can do immediately to help the situation is getting a pool of sea water to the house. It can be a bathtub but something that would allow Lester to float in the water to help relieve the pressure and pain of laying in the same position in bed 24/7. We need someone experienced to help with the proper water therapy for Lester. My thought is the initially just floating in the sea water would be a great start. As he gains muscle and strength other things can be introduced.
Other things we can do is get an air mattress for his bed and a cooling pad and possibly an orthopedic pillow that allows him to breath when he lays on his stomach. The rash on his face is from laying on the pillow in the same position for a prolonged time. He is in that position because that seems to be the most comfortable position for Lester due to the muscle spams that are pulling everything backwards in his entire body.
Anyone going to or coming back from San Jose, or the US please help us locate these items so that we can get them to Lester.
We also need a therapist to show some things the family can do to help Lester regain his muscle strength. Dr. Kevin Gannon also said that it's great to give him protein supplements. The powder protein supplements like Ensure, etc. Some of you might have better knowledge of what that needs to be for this condition.
We will be doing another fundraiser (online auction) in the next few days to sell off the certificates that were donated to help Lester. Stay tuned, we will keep you posted on Lester's progress. Thanks again for all your ongoing support.
