HELP! I HAVE BEEN HIRED

Finally I landed a job after I was FIRED.

What’s the problem?

I have heard/ read that I should notify “everyone” of the good news: should that include the staff of the company that terminated me?

People get terminated for a variety of reasons from poor performance to financial cut backs, relocations and personality issues to name a few. Nowadays it’s more common than not to have been FIRED at least once in your career.

Notifying colleagues of your good news is as much about marketing and self-promotion as it is about courtesy. Imagine you can be an inspiration?

With electronic tools you can make a broad sweeping announcement using LinkedIn and or Facebook. However, a nice tailored note to the folks who read your resume, networked on your behalf, provided a reference/feedback, and bought you coffee are part of building a relationship.

If your employer provided outplacement services you may want to thank the HR person and/or your boss for that privilege that likely helped you perfect your job search skills and helped you to land the job.

Informing your former employer who terminated you takes maturity, wisdom and strategic thinking.

I get it it, you are angry, hurt and bitter about the termination and you are allowed to be, but we always need to be forward thinking. Get over it in public and lick your wounds in private.

A concise upbeat note letting your former employer know how much you learned during your tenure with the company will go a long way towards keeping them part of your network.
