Help Fix Problems.....

One of the essential elements to becoming a great FBP (Finance Business Partner) is to be known as someone who helps identify and fix problems.

Yes thats what i said ....identify and also fix problems .....address these areas and you're suddenly in the FBP elite ....by doing this consistently well you will always be invited into the inner sanctum and guaranteed a seat at the table when big decisions are made and when serious problems need fixing....which is the #1 influential goal for all FBP's.

Identify Problems

For a good FBP this is the easy bit - use those numbers to see where the pain is, and ask people in your organisation where the problems are (they will tell you anyway !). Then value the detrimental effects in financial terms....you have just got your Directors attention......

Fix Problems

An FBP cannot single handedly fix a companies problems, but you can help by using your FBP skills to get involved - perhaps project management, decision support and financial control side of managing solutions....and anything else you are keen to develop - but make sure you are involved.

The real people who fix problems for companies are the "Consiglieres"....the people who really influence how a business works and are the ones who everyone listens to for advice, wisdom and guidance.

Get at least 1 Consigliere assigned to the problem and advise them with whatever information and support they need to get it fixed.

Always recognise and befriend Consiglieres in your business and support them with whatever they need - it will pay dividends in your FBP career path.
