(Help!) Did you know Amazon did this?
Do you know why it matters so much to authors like me when you pre-order a book?
Because then Amazon will carry it.
Amazon can’t possibly stock 1,000 copies of every item they sell. For instance, they don’t have 1,000 copies of, “The Cat’s Meow Cat Sitter DVD – Licking the home alone blues!” (A very real film about fish and birds that your cat is supposed to watch while you run errands.)
So, Amazon orders minimal copies of each product. When an author releases a new book, on the day it comes out, it will often quickly go out of stock which is the kiss of death for authors. (No one orders an out of stock book. If a product doesn’t say “Prime,” on it, I don’t even make eye contact with it.)
We authors then have to tweet, “Amazing! My book sold out!” as if it’s a good thing, but trust me, we are all DYING inside.
The only way to prevent that is to ask friends, family members and readers to pre-order your book. When Amazon sees pre-order sales come in, they think, “Oh, wait a second, we better order some more of this book.” That means on release day, the book stays in stock and you get to cry tears of joy, not tears of out-of-stockness.
The coolest thing is that other retailers watch Amazon’s numbers too and it gives you a chance to get your book into different stores.
That’s why pre-orders matter so much to authors and why I’m asking you to pre-order a copy of my new book “Soundtracks” today.
It shows you how to turn overthinking from a super problem into a superpower and I think you’re going to love it.
It comes out on April 6th and it would mean the world to me if you pre-ordered it today here: https://www.amazon.com/Soundtracks-Surprising-Overthinking-Jon-Acuff/dp/1540900800/ref=sr_1_2?crid=25U50S1EDUQX2&dchild=1&keywords=soundtracks+jon+acuff&qid=1617024775&sprefix=soundtracks%2Caps%2C161&sr=8-2)
If you already have, THANK YOU, please grab a copy for a friend.
I get to write books because you read books.
Thanks for pre-ordering a few days in advance. It makes a much bigger deal than you might have known.

3 年Heard you on a recent Podcast. I luckily figured I had a problem with my mindset and thoughts at 19. It changed my life completely- I was a single mom living in poverty. I thought I couldn’t do any better - then someone convinced me to go see some motivational speaker. About 30 minutes in I realized everyone around me was successful and I started to listen. Took me years of practicing better thoughts. I earned six figures and owned my own home less than 4 years later. It really does work!

3 年Thanks for the reminder. I've pre-ordered Soundtracks, of course. Now I need to think about other awesome authors I want to support. I really look forward to thinking about reading soundtracks, procrastinating because the timing isn't perfect, fussing about whether to read, listen or read/listen, absorbing the content, and never overthinking my engagement with a book again.
