HELLO!! WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY LOADING!!!!

World Environment Day (WED) occurs on the 5th of June every year, and is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. WED has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.

A Platform for Action World Environment Day is the UN's most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.

The People's Day Above all, World Environment Day is the "people's day" for doing something to take care of the Earth. That "something" can be focused locally, nationally or globally; it can be a solo action or involve a crowd. Everyone is free to choose.

The Theme Each World Environment Day is organized around a theme that focuses attention on a particularly pressing environmental concern. The theme for 2018 is beating plastic pollution #BeatPlasticPollution

WHY NIGERIA MUST BE ACTIVELY INVOLVED:

Nigeria still remains one of the top countries extremely vulnerable to solid waste and plastic pollution. This is detrimental to our country and citizens.

There are many factors responsible for this; yet, we must continue to adopt workable strategies ranging from civic engagements, voluntary compliance to government policy enforcement; to avert the consequential damage posed by ineffective waste management value chain and the resultant environmental pollution and health hazards.
