Hello World ??.??????
Dan J Murphy
Award-winning Sales Leader in Medical Device Technologies and Trusted Business Partner in Clinical Developments
My professional journey, coursing over the last twenty five years, has been anything but ordinary. It's a story rooted in unwavering dedication, fueled by genuine passion and defined by an unrelenting commitment to positively impact the lives of those I encounter. ??
My career began right out of high school, where the only class I could stay awake in was Computer Science. At 17, I was brought on to Buried Pipeline Services Ltd. to process massive amounts of pipeline survey data gathered by field crews, often after environmental disasters like the ‘97 Pembina River flood. I'd spend entire weekends at the office meticulously parsing field data, generating topographic and cross-sectional maps and integrating into mission-critical reports by Monday morning. They were Cathodic Protection damage reports for industry giants like Imperial Oil / Esso and Shell Canada. Amidst it all, I fondly recall our office lunches often going a bit late with spirited DukeNukem battles. ??
I moved to Calgary shortly after the Y2K! devastation, where I joined the ranks of The 400 Club as an Administrative Assistant/Guest Services professional. In the heart of downtown, I had the privilege of interacting with and serving Calgary's professional elite. Alas, The 400 Club closed it’s doors in 2002 after 21 remarkable years in business. Among my cherished memories is the impromptu need of a Bingo Caller during a charity event, where I got to deadpan, "Next up, we have... B9, as in thank goodness it's B9." and “B2… or not B2... it’s B2.” ??
I quickly found myself in the employ of a small but publicly traded company, Eyelogic Systems, installing medical systems at pace with their sales efforts all across Canada. I didn’t know it at the time, but it was my personal and professional evolution from Computer Sciences into Life Sciences. Over the subsequent 11.5 years and 5 (ad)ventures, I traveled the globe, assuming pivotal roles in Business Development, Sales, International Relations, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Training, and Logistics. In turn my contributions enabled hundreds of professionals, and literally millions of people to climb the socio-economic ladder. I was hooked. Also in process, I had fully realized my life’s mission of improving people’s lives and was laser-focused on action planning it. Alas, the company was privatized in 2013 after incubating one more successful venture, Greenleaf Canvas.??

In 2014, I took on dual roles as Marketing Manager & Territory Manager for Pacific Medical Technologies/Axis Medical Canada, a prestigious ophthalmic supplier. Over the next 8 years, I honed my development skillsets, where I continually made a positive impact and fostered enduring relationships across Western Canada.
My key driver has always been innovation. I ensured this through continual market research and trend analysis, where I was routinely first-to-market in Canada. In 2018, a pre-selling success brought me to Sydney, NS, the second city in my career with that namesake, where I enabled best-in-class patient care and profitability through clinical and business development. In 2022, after a recent sale of 13 new-to-market units into Calgary, I flew Engineers in from Korea to troubleshoot and work on each unit in-field protecting the sale and relationship integrity. My fondest memory was enabling my customer, an established and respected independent Optometrist in St. Albert, AB, to expand her business operations internally, completely eliminating the need for another lease. ??
Then last year, after an exciting and successful 20 years in medical technologies, I parted ways with that role. ???
Alas, I had done some pretty intense reflecting while camping last summer. Amid tornado warnings and batting down the hatches of my tent trailer and my weiner dog, I had finally made myself the Customer. ??
