Hello and welcome to our Winter Branch Newsletter for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex region.

My name is Tracy Stickland and I have recently been appointed as the Branch Secretary for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Branch. In my day job, my role is Head of Finance – Strategy at NHS Sussex ICB. My colleague Elisa Llewellyn , Director of Commissioning, Contracting and Costing from East Kent Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is our new Branch Treasurer.

We are passionate about all things HFMA and championing a profession for which we hold dear. We work closely with the Regional Finance Academy South East and champion the work of One NHS Finance and the Skills Development Network, to celebrate and develop the finance professional in the NHS at both a National and Regional level.

It is essential that we unite to deliver the South East’s vision and develop the necessary skills to successfully thrive in a rapidly changing health economy. Read on as this newsletter will give you further insight into our change of branch chair back in October and the KSS Team. We also look back to our HFMA Branch Conference held in Bexleyheath and the fabulous work of the Gillingham Street Angels. Find out about membership, the HFMA’s new website and why you should get involved and become a member!

I can’t stress enough that if you have the opportunity to take up HFMA membership, which is FREE for bands 2 – 6, please do! Getting involved at regional level and championing the national policies and work of the central team is a real buzz. I feel very positive about the professionalisation of finance in the NHS. Through our collaborative and structured approach, we will always strive for excellence, best practise and increase the visibility of the work we're doing. Furthermore, the branch holds a number of events throughout the year, including lunch and learn webinars, workshops, masterclasses, social events and an annual conference. We welcome and encourage members to get involved with our events and/or our branch committee.?

It is truly warming to be speaking to regional contacts and thanks to existing members for being with us this year. Plans are already under way for our next regional conference in October 2024. We hope to meet as many of you there as possible!?

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy reading this newsletter and if you ever have any suggestions for future content or would like to contribute, please email ?[email protected]

All that’s left is to express my sincere Season’s Greetings and wish you all a happy and prosperous New year ahead.

A look back to our October Conference and our charity

Thank you to all involved and to all those who attended our 2023 Conference on 19th and 20th October at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Bexleyheath. It was a truly great event and we heard from many great colleagues, leaders and speakers.

Closing Day One, Neil Charlick from this year’s charity, Gillingham Street angels spoke about his own experiences of homelessness and his inspiring story of helping others in need. We then held our Gala Dinner and presented this year’s awards. Our congratulations to our Awards?Winners!? Could it be you next year?

Day Two kicked off with the branch AGM and then the first of our keynote speakers; Darren Edwards – Disabled Adventurer. Peter Ridley , Deputy Chief Finance Officer – Operational, NHS England then spoke on Delivering the One NHS Finance Strategy. Finishing the Conference, Ollie Ollerton from C4 SAS; Who Dares Wins spoke openly about making yourself the most important project. We then enjoyed a delicious lunch and bid our delegates a safe journey home.
