1. ?? Platform spotlight
Refining sourcing:
One thing is clear from our conversations with industry contacts, friends, and partners—battery sourcing remains a key area for improvement in the sector. In response, Cling's Sourcing Request?tool now has been updated to offer greater flexibility. It allows users to specify their exact requirements and make it easier than ever to quickly and efficiently find the suitable supply.
What’s new?

2. ?? The first service driven battery passport
Digital product passport (DPP):
Cling Systems, ChromaWay , and RBN eco have joined forces to enhance traceability and sustainability in the battery sector. By combining our expertise with blockchain-driven solutions, we’re advancing battery traceability with?tangible benefits.
?Now entering its second phase, our collaboration includes more key players across the value chain, promising increased efficiency and sustainability. William Bergh, Founder and CEO of Cling Systems, highlighted the critical need for the Digital Product Passport (DPP):?
“Circular battery raw materials are crucial for ensuring energy security and advancing the green transition. Traceability, as a key enabler of circularity, places battery passports at the heart of this process. However, these passports only realise their value when they are fit for purpose and effectively integrated into passport control systems. By partnering with ChromaWay, Cling is at the forefront of developing both the passports and the essential control systems, enhancing our capacity to deliver seamless circularity solutions.”

volytica x Cling:
We have announced a partnership with volytica diagnostics , a leading German startup working on battery monitoring solutions. The collaboration combines Cling's battery circularity platform with volytica’s monitoring solutions.
For sellers: The chance to get enhanced battery value through data-driven reports and continuous monitoring.
For buyers: Greater confidence when purchasing second-life batteries and benefitting from manufacturer-independent battery diagnostics
Claudius Jehle , CEO of Volytica Diagnostics, emphasized, “Partnerships with companies such as Cling are hugely beneficial to the wider industry. Given the impending shortage of battery experts, providers and clients trading batteries on Cling's platform can have independent battery health, performance and life assessments without struggling to find the right expertise themselves”.

4. ?? Logistics spotlight
Global Sea Freight Market:
Spot prices for shipping have started to decline after peaking in July. These decreases reflect a correction after the peak season, similar to the adjustment seen after the Red Sea crisis earlier in 2024.?
To address bottlenecks in ports, shipping companies are rescheduling some of their services so that fewer ports are called in rotation. But only 54% of major route ships were on time in June. Despite geopolitical tensions, shipping companies like Maersk remain optimistic about earnings in 2024. (Source DSV)

5. ?? Final thoughts
In late September, William Bergh, CEO of Cling, traveled to Korea with Business Sweden and the Swedish Energy Agency to explore collaboration opportunities, industry trends, and to meet with players across the supply chain.
What stood out?
Korea’s battery sector is undeniably strong, with big battery oems at the forefront. But their heavy reliance for raw materials is a well-recognized vulnerability. Meanwhile, circularity was a recurring theme in every meeting—yet no one seems to agree on what it actually means.
Here’s the challenge: If circularity is the peak of the mountain, we need a clear view of that summit. What does it look like? What are we really striving to reach? Without a defined goal, it's impossible to choose the right path—and that’s where Cling comes in. By clarifying this vision, Cling wants to create teh path for others to follow, ensuring everyone walks in the same direction toward a sustainable, circular battery future.
The climb ahead is steep, but with a clear vision, Cling is ready to lead the way.
