Hello, I am Back!
Dear followers on linkedIn,
some of you might have asked what has happened to me in the last 2 years since I left RWE/Innogy, as my LinkedIn account was rather inactive. Have I gone for early retirement?
Well, some of you who have followed the internet might have seen my name popping up occasionally in relation to a gigantic project in the Middle East called NEOM. That is exactly where I have found my new destiny. After having spent almost 20 years of my professional life in changing an existing energy system towards more renewables, I am now setting up an energy system of the future. Truly a blanc canvas approach, helping to build a society and economy based on 100 % Renewable Energy. Covering under my responsibility the whole value chain from production, transport, distribution, residential, commercial and industrial customers. But also the establishment of a renewable technology manufacturing hub.
Today is a great day, as the future of Renewable Energy is not only about electricity from sun and wind but also about decarbonizing other forms of energy. I call it the second wave of the energy transition that will convert the so called ‘hard to abate’ sectors. These sectors need energy not in the form of green electrons, but in the form of green molecules. Commonly known as Green Hydrogen, but also many derivatives of Green Hydrogen like Green Methanol, Green Fuels, Green Fertilizers or Green Ammonia. This topic is top of mind at the moment with both policy makers as well as industry, but although a lot of talking and pre-feasibility studies are going on it so-far has not surpassed the pilot stage or has only had small commercial applications. To really make a difference we need to move to scale and this is what we are going to do in NEOM.
I am proud to confirm that NEOM has signed an agreement with Air Products and ACWA Power to construct a world-scale green ammonia production facility based in NEOM. This partnership with two extremely significant industry companies is an enormous milestone for NEOM. The facility's ability to produce 1.2 million tons of green ammonia per year and 650 tons of hydrogen per day will propel us to the forefront of the global hydrogen market and place NEOM as a significant player in the future of sustainable energy production.
The below press announcement is distributed today.
