Hello, From Austin, TX!
As you may have noticed, my location is now Austin, TX. After being in the DC area for 22 years, it was time for a change.
My journey in DC started in November 1998, when Scott and I arrived to start what became BroadSoft. We didn’t know anyone and decided to pick the DC area since it was between our two hometowns. It was neither too cold nor too hot and neither too southern nor too northern. We were two entrepreneurs looking to make our way.
Scott and I had just left Alcatel after their acquisition of Celcore/DSC in Memphis. We both realized that we would not start a technology company in Memphis, so we decided to look for a suitable technology hub in the US. I could never imagine the 20+ years the BroadSoft journey would take us and all the great friends we would make.
Settling into the DC area, Scott and I rented apartments near each other and we started to spend our days, nights and weekends building our company. We were joined by the early founding team - Alex Doyle, Maria Hemmer Doyle and Steve Liao.
While Montreal will always be my hometown, the DC area became a close second. My son, Josh was only 5 years old when we moved there. My daughter, Dana was born there. Ironically, both have now landed up in Boston with Josh working at Cisco and Dana starting her first year at Northeastern University.
With both kids in Boston and the world becoming 100% virtual, I decided I needed a change. I have been traveling to Austin for several years and made some great friends, so the decision was easy. The city has also become a technology hub. Every day I hear about companies and people who have decided to move to Austin.
While the move leaves me far away from my two partners, Scott and Jim, we stay connected through our work at True North Advisory. We work with entrepreneurs looking to take their companies to the next level. Despite the change, my continued efforts to give back to the technology entrepreneurial community remains constant. To my network, you know where I am and let’s stay connected through LinkedIn.
For those of you who live in Austin - please reach out and we can network virtually or have a socially distance approved coffee (or drink).
