I interact a lot with young professionals about starting their careers. So I think a lot about what they need to do to land a good job. This is something I feel most of us are struggling with at some point in our lives.
I recently had a recruitment campaign out for a marketing intern, where I'm on the recruiter side of the equation. This made me realize something.
If you want to get the job, make it easy for me to say yes.
This includes two factors.?
Stand out by being a "hell yes or no"
The first one is to stand out. For my small internship here in Turku, Finland, I got over 30 applications. With more interesting positions, the application volume can be similar to a tsunami.
If you clearly stand out from the crowd, it makes it easy for me to give you extra attention and make a more awake decision if I want to take you forward or not.
When I mean stand out, I mean that:
A great example from previous recruitment was a candidate who had a portfolio including links to posts, videos, references, and the relative success of the campaigns. Everything I could ever ask for.

That candidate clearly stood out and made my decision easy.
Make understanding you easy
Just like when I want to buy a product or service, I want to know a lot of stuff. I want references, a portfolio, see you in videos, hear you in podcasts, etc.
If you make it really easy to understand who you are and what your specialization is, it's so easy to say yes.
Think of me as the receiver - if I have to ask you for your portfolio, ask you for your references, ask you for videos with you in it, etc. it's just a hassle. If you provide these resources as a link on your up-to-date website included in your application, I will be delighted.
With these two things, you can fight through the decision-making anxiety that is hiring and get one step closer to sealing the new job.
But this is just me - what are your thoughts on this? Do you agree? Is there something I'm missing? Please share your thoughts!

2 年You are a product or service you are trying to sell to someone who has a problem. Be it your knowledge or know-how, startup idea, (startup) product or service. You are always selling something to somenone, solving someone's problem. Sometimes they know they have a problem. Sometimes they don't know and you have to make them see the problme. You have to make really clear what are you doing and what is the benefit to choose you.

2 年When I have been recruiting I, the thing that made my day, was to understand what they really want in theyr life. And No, I do not mean rest of life, but desires, passions and dreams. I want to see whatkind of humanbeing there is, who am I choosing to my team. Who will fit the best way to the whole, what wil enhance it etc. . But it takes a lot of courage to bring yourself to that kind of clarity and showing it off. But that is worth it.
