Hell, Heat and Outages

A potentially historic?heatwave threatens more than 130 million people across the United States. On Friday, a new heat record was set in California’s Death Valley, one of the hottest places on Earth. The previous high of 122 F was shattered by 5 F when the mercury climbed to 127 F (53 C). For Wednesday, temperatures at Furnace Creek in Death Valley are forecast to reach 130F.

Furnace Creek may be Hell’s outpost on Earth, but major cities like Phoenix, Arizona, are also experiencing extreme heat. Last week, the city set a new record high of 118 F for the time of the year.

A recent article in the New York Times cites a study that?a heat wave and blackout would send half of Phoenix, 800,000 people, to E.R.?That is unimaginable.

Summer in Arizona has always been hot, but temperatures are approaching?levels humans can no longer survive.?Body bags with ice?are now part of ambulances to treat heat stroke.

Air conditioning is no longer for comfort but for survival. When the power goes out, you need high-power inverters to run A/Cs and large batteries to carry you through the night.

Popular solar batteries with 10-15 kWh of storage are worthless “garage art” when the power goes out and the mercury climbs to 100+. An A/C will burn through the battery in hours.

The PowerBloc? BASE? has a 24 kW inverter capable of running multiple air conditioners, 70 kWh of energy storage, and the ability to integrate up to 20 kW of solar.

At YouSolar, we do not sell a product; we sell resilient power. Our inverters can drive multiple A/Cs, our 70+ kWh batteries can run them through the night, and our solar arrays are not sized for the average load but the highest expected cooling or heating loads.

The PowerBloc will play a critical role in providing safety and peace of mind to customers in Phoenix and beyond. We also expect that cooling shelters will become a crucial market for the PowerBloc. Distributed PowerBlocs are critical infrastructure.

Long gone are the days when?dipping in irrigation canals of citrus groves provided relief to Phoenicians in 1921.
