HeliService USA is launching first commercial Offshore HEMS & SAR Operations in the American Northeast
January 13, 2025 – Quonset, Rhode Island?- HeliService USA announces its certification as an ambulance service, marking the successful launch of its first day of commercial Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) for the offshore wind (OSW) industry in the American Northeast.
This is the result of years of dedicated effort and the commitment of one of the major OSW developers to prioritize health and safety of the thousands of workers powering America’s energy future, as the nation’s energy demand continues to rise.
The need for comprehensive offshore emergency medical response has become increasingly clear. There have been numerous severe incidents reported over the past two years, including workplace injuries and sudden health emergencies such as strokes that needed a fast and comprehensive response. HeliService USA ’s new HEMS operations close this critical gap by delivering Advanced Life Support (ALS) care with skilled paramedics onboard, ensuring rapid and effective transport from offshore sites to the emergency room.
Proven expertise as the trusted partner
HeliService USA brings extensive experience as a trusted logistics provider since the inception of the American OSW sector. With over 11,000 passengers transported and also more than 10,000 hoist cycles completed in a single year, the company’s expertise in complex offshore operations is unmatched. Our teams conduct precision hoisting not only from vessels but also directly from transition pieces and turbines day in and day out, offering versatility and reliability in challenging offshore conditions for our customers. By leveraging decades of HEMS and SAR experience from our operational staff and applying their established operational expertise, HeliService USA has emerged as the clear choice to provide a commercially viable solution for the OSW industry’s critical emergency response needs.

Operational efficiency in addition to safety
Beyond improving worker safety, HEMS operations introduce significant operational efficiencies to the OSW sector. Helicopters ensure year-round access to offshore vessels and turbines, overcoming the limitations of high sea states that often hinder vessel-based emergency responses and operational continuity.
24-Hour SAR service
In just a few days, HeliService USA will expand its capabilities from its current 12-hour HEMS service to launching a 24-hour Search and Rescue (SAR) service for the region. This will support uninterrupted construction and operations, providing peace of mind for offshore teams working around the clock. With a highly skilled crew and the latest in ALS level medical support and equipment, HeliService USA ensures seamless medical care even in the most challenging conditions - day and night, 365 days of the year.
