Helios – the one and only!

There are plenty of opinions when it comes to weather forecasting, not the least of which is the accuracy of it, or lack thereof. This is especially true for short-term forecasting referred to as “nowcasting.” Unlike forecasting, “nowcasting” attempts to forecast the weather within the next 12 hours. We’d like to think that our weather forecasts will give us an exact “nowcast” – and at times, it is spot-on. Case in point, the latest round of snow hitting the east coast this week is a great example how Helios provides overall situational awareness to first responders, fire departments, DOT’s and/or commuters. Helios is a real-time ground weather intelligence system that is fast and accurate. Helios provides:
·?????Improved situational awareness
·?????Access real-time analytics
·?????Accurately detect ground conditions
·?????Analytics assess dynamic weather and road conditions
·?????Road wetness, ice and snow
·?????Visibility and precipitation
·?????… among other things
Taking this a step further; Helios uses machine learning to extract environmental and scene activity data from existing terrestrial camera networks. Helios can repurpose any persistent camera into a “smart” sensor without retrofit. Additionally, Helios provides accurate ground condition observations offering impact, trends and analysis of ground weather situations while traffic and other scene activities are being detected. There are many more use case applications Helios can be considered for – such as fire detection, traffic management, general emergency response (hurricane, flooding etc.) volcano monitoring and aviation visibility – to name a few.
L3Harris has extensive experience implementing and deploying Commercial and Government systems in multiple Cloud environments. Connect with me on how we leverage Helios’ ground situational awareness capabilities for your agency!
