Pompano Beach Helicopter Crash: 2 Dead, 2 Injured During Emergency Response
A Broward County Sheriff’s fire rescue helicopter crashed into an apartment complex in Pompano Beach, Florida, near an airfield just north of Fort Lauderdale on Monday, August 28, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries. The deceased include Capt. Terryson Jackson of Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and an unidentified adult female resident of the apartment complex; both injured individuals are in fair condition at an area hospital. The helicopter, a BSO Fire Rescue model, experienced an in-flight fire one-half mile from Pompano Beach Airpark while en route to an emergency call, according to the National Transportation Safety Board, CNN reports:
David Boulter Named FAA's Permanent Aviation Safety Chief Amid Runway Incursions
David Boulter, a veteran FAA official and pilot, has been appointed as the Federal Aviation Administration’s associate administrator for aviation safety, effective immediately. The announcement comes as the United States has experienced a string of air safety near-miss incidents, including seven runway incursions being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board since January 2023; one such incident involved a near collision between a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 and a Cessna Citation 560X in San Diego on August 11. Boulter's appointment fills a void in the FAA’s leadership, which has been operating without a permanent administrator since April 2022, Reuters reports:
