Here’s a story from Luis Martinez, our Sydney based Recruitment Consultant:
So... Just because I had a few jobs recently I'm no longer a good candidate? ??
I've had that question from candidates so many times and it is never easy to answer. ??
Recruiting a new employee is never fast or easy and I'm finding employers are starting to take more time and are being more cautious when doing so. ??
Changing jobs is natural, not every job or place is a good fit or at least it may not be for the long term and that's ok. ??
However, changing jobs too often may create an impression that the candidate is unstable, not very adaptable, gets bored quickly or may even be interpreted as the candidate being difficult to manage or being a poor performer and unable to keep a job. ??
It is a difficult job to decide on the character of a candidate with 1-2 interviews and the education and job history of the candidate may give an indication of the quality of the decision-making of that candidate. ????
So, if you ask me, I would say that it is worthwhile to stay in your job for a few years. Personally, I think 3 years is the sweet spot where it's not too often to create concerns. ??
You may need to change jobs sooner than that, every situation is different but what you don't want is to create a pattern where you're in the market for a new job every 12 months. ??
