There are many tests that the smartphone development leaders have faced in their careers, from ensuring fast and steady progress of multilingual teams of hundreds of developers, to scenario planning across multiple disciplines, market research, mechanics and product planning.
But few can have faced the demands that confronted Mika Alamartimo when faced with the challenge of creating tablets and smartphones for Nokia and Microsoft in a market where leading edge technology is not only the desire but the expectation.
It was therefore timely that UROS (Uni-fi Roaming Solutions) with its trusty “Goodspeed” companion device for smartphones, sought to move to the next generation of SIM technology “eSIM” at a time when Mika was looking for his next big challenge. Mika joined UROS as eSIM Program Manager, where his technical knowledge, supplier partnership experience and development techniques will deliver eSIM solutions for UROS.
While our current solutions are already allowing the flexibility which eSIM wants to provide, the need to innovate devices and follow the eSIM revolution is important to us and we are ready to see beyond its current applications to see where it takes us next.
eSIM is about to get very interesting, with Samsung, Apple, Vodafone and the GSMA all investigating its uses. While many MNOs have been working with eSIM devices for the IoT (Internet of Things) revolution, smartphones have now found a new freedom in sim-less technology that does away with the need to change SIMs. With all SIMs being embedded within devices and alterable in effortless ways, changes to subscribers’ profiles can be achieved faster than ever before and devices like wearables will have a network connection of their own.
According to Mika the SIM card is one piece of the puzzle, but developing the right products, which will include eSIM, is another speciality.
