Rocky Balboa, a small-time boxer from working-class Philadelphia, is arbitrarily chosen to take on the reigning world heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed, when the undefeated fighter's scheduled opponent is injured. What a classic tale of David and Goliath. Let’s draw a few of my own conclusions as to why the contender rises and the reigning champion fails.
Apollo was well known, he was almost fixed to the spot, he was slow and out of date. He was too focused on himself to notice what was happening on the outside. Apollo took care of his own demise.
In comparison, Rocky was fitter, he trained harder, he tried new things, he was faster and he was more agile. He didn’t take his position for granted. He improved all the time. He built a fan base and connected with his community, he listened to his trainer and he listened to his followers. Rocky didn’t care about Apollo, he was focused on self-improvement and being his best.
I’m being cryptic but I do love the film franchise Rocky. I’m stating a similarity in R for Rocky and A for Apollo akin to my work and the changing landscape of our industry. Lookout as Rocky rises and the franchise expands it’s the C for Clubber Lang next.
