Heavy Notions: Reflection & Poetry

Dear Readers,
As we step into this moment together, let’s pause with a gentle breath, allowing the weight of our thoughts to settle like autumn leaves before the wind carries them away. Poetry has a way of holding us in its rhythm, inviting us to dance between sorrow and solace, between longing and gratitude. This edition of our newsletter is dedicated to the poetry of remembrance—of those we miss, of the spaces they once filled, and of the echoes they leave behind.
Heavy Notions
Heavy notions linger on, remembering that you are gone. Perhaps in heaven or in the breeze that fills my lungs, that gives me ease. A sigh, a whisper, soft and bright, a fleeting shimmer in the night. Your laughter hums in rustling trees, a melody of sweet memories. Between the stars, within the dawn, in quiet hush, you’re never gone.
Grief is often heavy, but within its weight, there is also something melodic—a gentle song woven through our memories. As an end-of-life coach, I often remind others that grief and healing are intertwined, much like lyrics and melody. They play together, creating harmonies that shift between sadness and peace, between longing and love.
A Prompt for Reflection
Breathe in the poetry of your own grief. Take a moment to write a short poem or a simple phrase about someone or something you miss. Let it be playful, let it be sad, let it be exactly what it needs to be.
Listen to the rhythm of remembrance. Is there a song, a phrase, or even a sound that brings a loved one to mind? Can you write a few lines capturing that feeling?
Write a letter to the wind. Imagine your words floating up, carried by the breeze to wherever they need to go. What would you say if you knew they could hear you?
Life, after all, is a mystery. We can hold on, we can let go, and somewhere in between, we can dance with the bittersweetness of it all.
With warmth and reflection,
