Heat Pump, Choose EVI or Ordinary One?

Heat Pump, Choose EVI or Ordinary One?

To achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, the homeowners will need to install heat pumps to replace boilers or gas heating systems to satisfy the need for house heating, cooling, and domestic hot water. In long-term consideration, heat pumps will become standard installations of renewable heating. But regarding the high price, it is a big decision for the homeowner to select a proper heat pump. ?

There are three types of heat pumps for residential use, air-source heat pump, ground source heat pump, and water source heat pump. Among them, the air source heat pump is the most installed because it doesn’t require breaking into the ground and wastes a lot of time. It is only an integrated unit put outside your house. Most importantly, it absorbs the free air to produce heat, making it the most energy-saving and cost-effective.

Air source heating & cooling heat pumps are a rigid need. The heat is stretched in winter, so attaining heating is very important. For heating & cooling heat pump, there are two mature technologies currently. One is ordinary technology and other is the EVI technology. The ordinary heating & cooling heat pump absorbs air thermal to generate heating. With ordinary inverter technology, it can bring users constant experience and has a long lifespan of up to 15 years. However, the EVI heat pump, also called the “low-temperature” heat pump is designed for low-temperature weather, together with the functions the ordinary heat pump brings.

So, how to define which kind is the one you need? EVI or Ordinary one?

Climate

The EVI technology is a kind of heat pump technology applied to low ambient temperatures as down as -25℃. It solves the problem that ordinary heat pump cannot run stably or has low-efficiency performance in severe winter weather. When the ambient temperature is very low, the flow rate of the refrigerant will be greatly slowed down, thereby reducing the unit amount entering the compressor. Under the condition that the compressor works at a regular frequency, the unit amount of refrigerant will reach a higher temperature than before. The higher temperature will carbonize the compressor oil, which directly affects the efficiency and lifespan of the compressor. In conclusion, one of the main factors to choose an EVI heat pump is whether the temperature gets low to -25℃ or not in the wintertime.

Defrosting?

As the heat pump needs to work around 0℃ in winter, it will need to fight against the snowy weather and not get freezing. Otherwise, it will directly shut down the machine. So, the heat pump needs to realize defrosting as quickly as it can in the wintertime. For the defrost, an ordinary heat pump generally takes 5-10 minutes, while an EVI heat pump only takes 2-3 minutes. The shorter time defrosting can be, the longer time the heat pump can stay constant in function. Intelligent defrosting uses pressure sliding technology to determine the exact defrosting time and start pressure according to the ambient temperature. It saves energy and makes the heat pump work with high efficiency.

Energy Saving

The EVI heat pump ensures good overall performance in winter thanks to its inverter and EVI compressor. How much energy can a low-temperature heat pump save? Let me give you an example of a performance curve. When the water temperature is set to 35°C and the ambient temperature is lower than -5°C or -10°C, the energy efficiency ratio of an ordinary heat pump is greatly reduced to about 1.1. However, the low-temperature EVI heat pump can still reach an energy efficiency ratio of about 2.0 at -25℃ and even reach 4.0 at a normal temperature of 7℃, which greatly improves the energy-saving effect per unit.

EVI technology is developing steadily and has made great achievements in the application of heat pumps. As the technology continues to mature, the performance level will surely increase in the aspects of energy-saving, and eco-friendliness. And with its widespread use, the price will also decrease with time. #NEWNTIDE?is also constantly introducing new EVI heat pumps for market needs in colder regions such as North Europe, North America, and Canada.?
