A Heartful of Gratitude

A Heartful of Gratitude

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”

Gratitude may not give you happiness by itself, but it sure makes you focus on all the things that you can be happy about!

It shifts our focus from ‘what we don’t have to what we do have’

??????????? ?This is probably the MOST imp thread in our quest for lasting Happiness– Gratitude. It is said that it’s difficult to be depressed when you are counting your blessings. The simple act of giving or receiving gratitude fills us with contentment and joy. ?

???????????????? ?????? ?????????? ???????? ?????????? ?????????????????? ??????:

1.?????Improve overall well-being,

2.?????Increase resilience,

3.?????Strengthen social bondings, and

4.?????Cause a reduction in stress levels

5.?????People who practice this will also have stronger immune systems, lower blood pressure, better sleep(and in turn, better waking) and life satisfaction.

6.?????Grateful people also have a greater capacity for joy and positive emotions.

7.????? The founder of Ziva (a popular meditation training site),Emily Fletcher, mentions in one of her publications that gratitude is a ‘natural antidepressant’.

The daily practice of Gratitude is almost akin to medication. Daily practice of Gratitude produces a feeling of long-lasting happiness & contentment, the basis of which lies at the neurotransmitter level.

These are just some of the reasons to practice daily Gratitude – just ?2-3 mins of remembering our blessings can manifest in all of the above

The science behind Gratitude:

1.????? On expressing gratitude and receiving the same, our brain

releases Dopamine and Serotonin, the same two ‘feel good’?neurotransmitters

that are released when we indulge in acts of goodness. They lift our mood immediately and make us feel happy from the inside in the long run.

?2.????? It has been seen that people who maintain a gratitude journal

or write regular ‘thank you’ letters have better mental health and social

bonding. It is harder to dwell on the ‘negatives’ on our lives when we are focusing

on how so many people are doing so much for us! ?

3.????? In addition, our Reticular Activating System(RAS) brings to our attention whatever we focus on

4.????? Gratitude also strengthens our sense of security and belief

in the goodness of others. We notice the good that comes from outside of

ourselves and this reinforces our feeling of well-being.

????, ??????’?? ???????? ?? ???????? ?????????????? ???????????? ?????????????????? ?? ???????? ???? ?????? ??????????:

1.?????Every day, for a minimum period of a month – maintain a Gratitude Journal – write down atleast 10 things that you are grateful for. This could be anything from this opportunity to develop happitude to the next meal that you are going to have. Just note it down and offer a sincere ‘thank you’ to the universe for giving these to you.

I would say- pick up a beautiful notebook or decorate it yourself- spend 5-10 minutes a day feeling grateful and noting it down in your personal, beautiful book. Go over it every now and then – your heart will overflow with gratitude and then, happiness is just the side-effect ??

2.?????Have a WhatsApp group of your friends for daily Gratitude. Each one starts and ends the day with some things they are grateful for. This has a dual benefit – not only do we become more grateful for all that we have, we also get reminded of things we may have forgotten when we read other’s lists. As a daily habit, one gets to start and end the day feeling blessed and happy!

3.?????Gratitude rocks, beads and slips of hand-written ‘thank you’ notes all help us build up this habit. These serve as visual reminders – every time we see them or hold them, we say a ‘thank you’ to someone or for something. We can build our habit bit by bit through this.

We can also write our ‘thank you’ messages on little slips of paper and keep putting these in a jar. At the end of a month or so, we can take them out and go through them – believe me, you heart will fill up with joy with the number of blessings you have!

4.?????Another good way to feel blessed and also, build connections is to express gratitude. We can call up or write one message a day to someone we feel grateful to. This way, we revive our good feelings and also add happiness to the receiver’s life

5.?????We can be grateful for things around us, people around us and even the emotions we have. We don’t need to think too hard- anything that we feel grateful for needs to be expressed – it can even be what we learn in our lives and the people we are becoming.

6.?????Gratitude for the things in the future manifests these things for you. If you want a better life, start by saying a sincere ‘thank you’ for everything you want in that future life. Do it daily and be specific about what you want. You will see the things materializing in your life – this technique is akin to having a ‘vision board’ or the visualization technique

NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming explains this in simple terms. Once our conscious mind decides what it wants, and visualizes it vividly enough, our subconscious mind makes us adopt behaviors which lead us to the result of having those things in our life – it’s a matter of the conscious mind deciding and the subconscious mind working for it.

Through the practice of Gratitude, we an focus on the things we want in the future, and then our energies are directed to making those come true

I am sharing a video I found very powerful in explaining how Neuroplasticity results when we practice Gratitude

It takes regular effort to maintain

happiness. For Happiness to be our default emotion, we have to have some habits

built into our daily lives. Most of the techniques like regular contribution

and gratitude journal are some of these habits- these are not short events or one-time

actions. But like the effort, their result is long lasting!
