A Heartfelt Initiative: Spreading Joy to Little Cancer Warriors

Social responsibility is a strong practice and an integral part of our overall business strategy. Every year, at Xoriant, we embrace the spirit of gratitude and pledge to give back to the community. On a recent festive occasion, we aimed to extend our efforts beyond the company walls and celebrate it with the community. This decision garnered overwhelming support from the entire team, showcasing a shared commitment to making a positive impact.

The team's objective was not just to contribute funds but to create awareness about the significance of selfless giving to the community. We wanted to sensitively educate our colleagues about the challenges faced by the less fortunate in our society and instill a sense of gratitude for our blessings. It was about recognizing the struggles of others and becoming a source of fleeting happiness in their lives.

Partnering with CPAA: A Meaningful Connection to Bring Joy to Little Hearts

Ranjana Singh, AVP, Human Resources at Xoriant, suggested initiating discussions with the Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) in Pune. She enabled the team to organize interactions with the children in the Children's Cancer Ward at KEM Hospital.

Seven members of the Xoriant team visited the hospital carrying a specially curated gift hamper. The hamper included two utility items—an insulated water bottle and a woolen cap—and a soft toy Teddy Bear. Each child also received a personalized card containing unique positive affirmations, recognizing the importance of simplicity in conveying messages.

A Different Kind of Giving Back

One team member, dressed as Santa Claus, played the role of a festive messenger. We distributed the gifts to 16 children, ranging from one to ten years old. Initial amusement turned into genuine happiness as smiles lit up the faces of both the children and their parents. The emotional impact of witnessing toddlers with IV cannulas and visible pain was profound, making the experience simultaneously humbling and heart-wrenching.

Spreading Cheer: Beyond Material Gifts

We wanted to spread cheer that went beyond gift-giving. Engaging with the children and their parents, we initiated conversations, snapped photos with Santa, and even surprised everyone by singing "Hum Honge Kamyab." The hospital staff and some parents joined in, turning a spontaneous decision into a shared moment of joy.

Voices from Compassionate Hearts

"Witnessing the strength of those little fighters was both humbling and inspiring. Our small gestures meant the world to them, and in return, they gifted us with perspective and gratitude."

"This experience was unlike any other. The children's laughter and the gratitude in their parents' expressions despite the challenges they faced is a memory etched in my heart forever."

These were the emotions expressed by most of the employees who participated in the initiative.

Reflections: Doubling Compassion and Happiness

Back at the office, during a team meeting, those who visited the hospital shared their deeply moving experiences. The overwhelming emotions resonated with everyone, leading to a collective increase in the team's compassion quotient. As a team and as individuals, they came back with hearts full of empathy and a renewed sense of purpose.

The Vision to Impact 2 Million Lives by 2030

"We believe that acts of kindness through supporting the community and enabling them to see them grow, transform, and make an impact are at the core of our culture at Xoriant. This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission of making a positive impact not only within our organization but also in the broader community. As part of our Cancer Day initiatives, Xoriant employees will be contributing to blood donation drives, further reflecting our commitment to both internal and external well-being. Together, we strive to make a meaningful difference as we take smaller steps to touch over two million lives by 2030."

- Ranjana Singh, AVP, HR

On this World Cancer Day, we urge everyone to unite and close the care gap. Your support can make a difference!
