The Heartbreaking Reality of Sleep in Williams Syndrome – and What You Can Do?

In the last decade, substantial efforts have been devoted to the diagnosis of many genetic disorders. The main reasons why healthcare professionals seek early diagnosis of genetic disorders are the significant worse outcomes in such conditions and the bad quality of life for both the patient and his/her caregivers. Genetic disorders can stem from many causes, such as pregnancy complications, exposure to radiation,…etc.
Having a child with genetic disease is a nightmare for many families, as it affects their social, psychological and even economic levels. Williams Syndrome is one of the genetic disorders that affect many aspects of the patients’ and caregivers’ lives. As a physician and an uncle of a Williams Syndrome patient, I will illustrate to you why Williams syndrome patients face sleep problems? And I will give you the essential tips for better sleep in this particular group of patients.
