Heartbeat’s Cycle Sportive back for its seventh year in the saddle

The countdown is on for Heartbeat’s annual Cycle Sportive event – which is celebrating its 7th year.

The leading Hampshire cardiac charity is urging people across the region to saddle up and get peddling in the hope of raising some vital funds.

Taking place on Sunday 26th March, participants will have the choice between a 40-mile route, or an extra-gruelling 70-mile route across the beautiful Test Valley, travelling through historic market towns and cities including Romsey, Salisbury and Winchester.

Mark Ind, CEO of Wessex Heartbeat, said the annual event is the perfect way for people to raise money while doing something active.

He said: “There are many health benefits that come from cycling, so our Cycle Sportive event is crucial for not only helping to raise vital funds for Heartbeat, but also to help people get fitter.

?“We are delighted to be able to host this event for a seventh year in a row and we can’t wait to see everyone on their bikes for what will be a brilliant day.”

?Money raised from the Heartbeat Cycle Sportive will go towards the cardiac charity’s refurbishment of its home-from-home Heartbeat House.

?In addition, the charity is asking for donations towards a revolutionary project which will allow surgeons to get an accurate 3D printed model of a patient’s heart before surgery, giving additional insights and improving peace of mind for patients and their families as well as a wireless HD headcam which will record the magnified sight of the surgeon and allow everyone to follow the case step by step.

?The Cycle Sportive route will start and finish at Embley School in Romsey who have kindly allowed Heartbeat to use the grounds for the event. Cyclists will race through Romsey over to Winchester, Stockbridge and Broughton, where the 70 and 40-mile routes split. The longer route travels over to Salisbury and the shorter route travels back to Romsey via East Tytherley.

On the day, the route will be arrowed and marshalled and there will be free mechanical support available on route by Giant, Southampton as well as refreshments at Embley Park and Littleton. Hampshire drinks company Hildon will also be providing free water supplies.
