As a seasoned product designer who has seen the flow of design trends, I've come to realize that while new techniques can be enticing, the genuine spirit of UX design is rooted in a deep understanding of principles and processes. Figma animations may be a hot topic today, but to truly excel as a UX designer, we need to focus on the bigger picture. In this article, I'll share my thoughts on why it's vital to prioritize UX design principles and processes over the latest Figma animation techniques.
Users - The Soul of Design
A masterpiece of design starts with knowing your users. UX design is about making products that resonate with users, providing a seamless and enjoyable experience. Although Figma animations can be engaging, they should never outshine the essential task of conducting user research and connecting with your audience.
Timeless UX Principles - The Spine of Design
Fundamental UX principles, such as usability, consistency, and feedback, are the backbone of design decisions. By focusing on these enduring principles first, you guarantee that your designs are more than just a pretty face - they actually work.
Embracing the Design Journey
The UX design journey is an ever-evolving dance, featuring research, ideation, prototyping, and testing. As a designer, you should embrace each stage of this journey with open arms. Figma animations may be captivating, but they're just one small piece of the design puzzle. Prioritizing the design process allows you to craft user-centered products that truly make a difference.

Building Bridges Through Collaboration
In the real world, UX designers are constantly collaborating with a diverse ensemble of team members, such as product managers, developers, and fellow designers. Fixating on Figma animations can create an isolating bubble, making it difficult to collaborate with colleagues who use different tools or possess varying skillsets. Instead, nurturing clear communication and shared understanding of UX design principles and processes helps create harmony within your team, leading to a cohesive final product.
Riding the Waves of Change
The landscape of UX design is a constantly shifting sea, and staying afloat means adapting to new tools and technologies. Figma animations might be making waves today, but it's essential to maintain a sense of flexibility and adaptability. By anchoring yourself to UX design principles and processes, you'll be well-prepared to navigate the ever-changing tides of the industry.
In a nutshell, while Figma animations can be a tempting skill to acquire, the true heartbeat of UX design is found in the principles and processes that underpin our work. By prioritizing these foundations, you'll not only become a more versatile designer, but you'll also be better equipped to create impactful, user-centered products that leave a lasting impression.
Quick Note: I want to clarify that my intention is not to discourage designers from using Figma. It's an excellent tool that empowers us as designers to craft incredible digital experiences. My emphasis is on striking a balance between mastering the tool and not losing sight of the core UX design principles that ultimately lead to successful user experiences. Embrace Figma, but always remember the foundational elements that make us effective UX designers.
