The Heartbeat: "Money comes second to impact."

Yesterday, I learned that my podcast, F*ck Saving Face, made the top listener chart on Goodpods:

• #44 in the Top 100 Indie Self-Improvement All-Time Chart
• #83 in the Top 100 Indie Education All-Time Chart
• #92 in the Top 100 Self-Improvement All-Time Chart

It was a great nod because since I launched at the end of 2020, I've produced four seasons in four years.

There was a huge upswing in the beginning (hit 10K listeners within the first couple of months no problem)...

Then a big dip...

Then a consistent and steady rise.

It has taken a LOT of work. A good amount of investment. And, a real wondering every so often, "Why am I doing this again?"

So, if you've ever wanted to grow your platform via podcast, this email is for you...

Here's the truth about podcasting...

My podcast doesn't directly bring in revenue —?what it DOES do is:

• Connect me with notable and distinguished guests, which puts me on their radar.
• Create reciprocity, where I show up on their shows to build my platform.
• Keep me top of mind when they're seeking a branding & marketing agency and position me as an authority in my field.
• Enable me to give back in meaningful ways on a subject matter that's deeply important to me: mental health support for Asian Americans and voices of color.
• Fill my cup, because my purpose in life is to "make an impact" and the emails, text messages, and real-life conversations I have with listeners is so humbling.

Not everything is about money.

That's a slow lesson I am finally learning to wrap my mind around especially because our society continues to tell us that more is more.

It doesn't matter how many successful people say:

"Money doesn't make you happy," because until you live this true it might be difficult to fully grasp.

What's interesting is the more I focus on impact (my life purpose), the more rewarding my life is.

And, the more revenue I bring in, all with a greater sense of ease and alignment.

It's not the money coming in that's making me happy within the company I've built —?it's the fact that:

• Our clients love us, we love our clients, and they continue to refer us onward, which speaks volumes about the quality and value we provide.
• My team is made of incredibly caring humans (our designer sends us live Twitch feeds of a hummingbird outside his window in UT, because it brings him joy)
• I have time freedom to travel with my daughter for the next two weeks to Mexico and New York
• I get to focus on publishing my book via Kickstarter and how fun this endeavor will be to bring my dream to life.

It's really easy to get caught up in the momentum of the world around us.

It's much harder to swim in your own lane, but if my daughter's recent qualifying test for Junior Lifeguards is any testament — when you practice at your own pace and in your own space and ways, the results are tremendous.
