The Isle of Wight Distillery, launched by three visionaries in 2015, set out to craft whisky on an island better known for its scenic beauty than its spirits. Although their original plan to produce whisky didn’t materialize, that’s not because their business failed. Instead, their Mermaid Gin unexpectedly evolved into a global success, with nearly a million bottles sold annually. In ADI’s Voices of Distilling episode with Isle of Wight, sales director Malcom McClellan reveals how the distillery got started, how their growth has — and hasn’t — changed things, and how they developed that unmistakable Mermaid Gin bottle. Kingsbarns Distillery in Fife has invested a multi-million-pound sum to expand its facilities, enhancing production and maturation capabilities as it prepares to launch aged expressions for its 10th anniversary.

After five weeks of declines, drink sales in Great Britain's on-trade rose by 13% in the week ending 11 May, buoyed by warm weather and strong performances in spirits, cider, beer, wine, and soft drinks.

The 2024 American Distilling Institute's International Spirits Competition awarded Best of Class for Bourbon to Heaven Hill Distillery's Larceny, Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Barrel Proof A124, recognized for its pronounced flavors and affordability.

Uncle Nearest, a leading Black-owned spirits company, has acquired Square One Organic Spirits, marking its second acquisition after Domaine Saint Martin vineyards and advancing its goal to become the first spirits conglomerate in America founded by a woman or person of color.

New Release Roundup

15 Stars Fine Aged Bourbon - a blend of whiskeys from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana, aged 7, 9 and 15 years. Already winning Gold and Double Gold medals at various competitions, the bourbon was released to more states and online on March 25, 2024.

Westland Distillery Solum 2nd Edition American Single Malt - aged 53 months in Cooper’s Reserve and Select New American Oak. Solum exhibits all that gorgeous balance of fruit and smoke inherent in their standard American Single Malt. But the higher proof and oak combination exudes more robust notes of rosemary and sage, tobacco, tea tannins, and balanced peat.
