The heart of Summer Campus – HackIf 2024 ideas revisited

With winter approaching, I find myself looking back on one of this year’s highlights: Summer Campus. At the forefront of this event was HackIf, which showed a great example of teamwork, creativity, and the fusion of business and tech minds to create digital solutions for our existing insurance product portfolio.?

It was fantastic to see colleagues from different business areas join forces to create solutions that embody our core values. Each team was tasked with improving a product or service offered by If Insurance , all while aligning their ideas with one of our three core values. Here's what they came up with!?


We stay ahead?

Let's start with our first value, We stay ahead – where we let curiosity and drive challenge ourselves to help each other grow. The Still TJ team embraced this?spirit with their idea to enhance travel insurance services using QR code stickers. These stickers would be designed for cherished travel items like suitcases and toys, aiming to provide a simple solution for reconnecting lost items with their owners. The idea promotes If as a reliable travel companion, highlighting our commitment to supporting our customers wherever they go.??

Another fantastic idea came from the team VoltVoyage, who focused on gamifying the electric car charging experience. Their solution offers electric car users the ability to plan routes with points of interest near charging stations, access special offers when charging at partner locations, and level up to earn even greater discounts. By combining practicality with an element of fun, their idea not only simplifies the process of finding charging stations but also makes driving an electric car an engaging and rewarding experience, while If benefits with better risk selection.?

We put our hearts into it?

The Fortune Cookies team pitched their idea to improve claims processing for the customer. Their solution provides real-time updates on MOD claim statuses through the If mobile app and MyPages. By keeping customers informed and reducing the need for follow-up calls, this idea saves time and delivers a smoother, more transparent experience for everyone involved.???

The Pawfect Team focused on supporting pet owners with an engaging approach to pet insurance. They proposed a gamified app that educates users on proper pet care. Upon completing the game, users receive a discount code for pet insurance, making it more accessible and adding an element of fun to the process. This innovation encourages responsible pet ownership while making insurance products more appealing.?

In response to this summer’s devastating storms in Latvia, the OG team proposed an API integration with a hazard forecast for If applications where applicable. This feature would send timely warnings to customers about severe weather while also helping adjust policy pricing based on risk levels. By keeping our customers informed and prepared, this solution demonstrates a proactive approach to protecting their homes and well-being.?

The Travel Tutor team took safety education to new heights with their idea for personalized travel safety materials. Using AI, their solution would generate custom learning resources based on trip details like destination and travel companions. After completing a safety quiz, customers would receive a discount code for travel insurance. This approach not only educates the customers but also incentivizes them to make safe travel choices.?

Trust is our backbone?

Building upon the Travel Tutor's idea of caring for our traveling customers, the Travel Trust Team had a similar thought in mind when developing their idea. They focused on ensuring peace of mind for customers traveling abroad by creating a system that assesses the safety of travel destinations. This solution would give customers the confidence that If is ready to support them at every step of the way no matter the circumstances.?

The Backbone Protectors proposed making claims communication more personal and supportive by adding messages with relevant tips when submitting a claim, some helpful advice, tips and tricks, and even partner pharmacy discounts, when applicable. Their solution aimed to create a warmer, more meaningful connection with customers, showing care and reliability when it matters most.?

The spirit of HackIf?

HackIf 2024 was an opportunity to come together, collaborate, and bring our core values to life. The dedication and creativity displayed during the intense HackIf sprint was inspiring and a reminder of what we can achieve together.

The teams that produced the most impactful and well-developed ideas were predominantly made up of members from diverse departments. Notably, those teams with a UX designer benefited from stronger cross-functional collaboration. This led them to more effective solutions, highlighting the value of diverse perspectives.?

Looking ahead to 2025, I’m excited about the ideas that came out of HackIf and can’t wait to see how they grow and make an impact. ?
