On October 19, 2024, Hearn & Hearn Consulting proudly participated as a Gold Sponsor at the QS Summit Manila 2024, organized by the Philippine Institute of Certified Quantity Surveyors (PICQS), Inc. . The event gathered hundreds of Filipino quantity surveying practitioners from around the globe, both virtually, and in person at the AIM Conference Center in Makati City. With the theme "The Evolving Role of Quantity Surveyors in Shaping a Smart and Greener Future", the summit underscored the crucial role of digital transformation in the construction industry, emphasizing sustainability and the need for innovative technologies.

The full-day summit focused on advancing the local construction sector by promoting Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. Topics such as skills upgrading, incentivization, and the institutionalization of these technologies were thoroughly explored, demonstrating how innovation can enhance industry practices and contribute to sustainability. These efforts align with the Philippine Construction Industry Roadmap 2020-2030, a blueprint for modernizing the sector and improving infrastructure.

Notably, the event was attended by Dr Ernesto De Castro, Chairman of the Digitization Initiative, who emphasized the importance of digitization in the country’s long-term infrastructure goals. The summit also covered the Philippine BIM Roadmap, which is currently in the early stages of implementation. This roadmap sets the foundation for integrating advanced digital technologies in construction, with a three-phase rollout designed to enhance efficiency and productivity in the industry.

A key challenge discussed during the summit was the need to generate demand for BIM and AI technologies in the Philippine construction industry, which has been slower to adopt these advancements compared to its Southeast Asian counterparts. To address this, national standards for digitization are being developed, and the establishment of a Philippine BIM Center is underway to ensure the industry is equipped to meet future demands.

Academic institutions and construction firms are already stepping up by investing in skills training and implementing cutting-edge technologies in projects. By doing so, they hope to demonstrate the benefits of these innovations to investors and developers, accelerating adoption throughout the industry.
