Hearing Australia helping anyone, anytime, anywhere

We’re working closely with our partners to help more Australians improve their hearing and stay connected to the people and life they love. We’re doing this through our research and innovation, the transformation of our services, and by expanding our partnerships.

Our vision is to deliver the best hearing solutions for anyone, anytime, anywhere and we currently help thousands of people each week through our centres, tele-services, online, at home, and through our outreach program.

How we’re improving access to hearing care

When it comes to service delivery, we are focusing on three key areas.

  • Helping more people in more communities

We’re bringing essential hearing care directly to communities by opening more hearing centres where they are needed. In the 2022-23 financial year we opened 19 centres from Darwin to Traralgon in the Gippsland region of Victoria. Of these, 14 are brand new centres and five have been relocated.

Bhaveena?Pather, Manager of our new Centre in Glen Waverley in Victoria says, “There has been a growing demand for service in this area over the past 10 years. The team have strong ties to the community and we have multilingual staff, which we believe will be a great help to many of our clients and their families.”

  • Creating a more open, welcoming centre design?

We’ve also redesigned our centres so that our clients and the community feel confident and comfortable to walk in and have a conversation about their hearing health.

Liza Sarris, Manager of our new Belconnen centre in the ACT says, “Belconnen has been a breath of fresh air for Hearing Australia and the ACT since opening our doors in January this year. We’re more accessible to our clients and we’re able to better meet local demand with more than 350 new clients now getting the hearing help they need. People comment on the new look and feel of the centre on a daily basis, and it’s been amazing to see the number of people who walk in to chat about their hearing health.”

  • Investing in digital technology

We’re investing in digital platforms, including telehealth, so that clients can choose how they receive hearing care. Through our telehealth service, our clinicians across the country can deliver high quality telehealth services that have the same great outcomes as those delivered in person.

After our Toombul centre in Queensland was impacted by the east coast floods in February 2022, we opened a new centre in Lutwyche earlier this year. Centre Manager, Laurena Graham, says, “Our new centre opened in April and our clients are just so pleased to have us back. But having a hybrid service model will always be absolutely essential because we have a number of paediatric clients who are based out of town, and it can be difficult for families to get into the centre. Families will often choose telehealth appointments for a follow up after a hearing device fitting or perhaps an annual check-up if things are going well."

A local hub for hearing health

Our centres also serve as a hearing hub for local communities. All new centres are supported by Community Hearing Advisors who work with local organisations to better support the hearing needs of local residents, including aged care. Through our centres, we also coordinate outreach trips to deliver services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Manager of our recently relocated Darwin centre, Kallista Boehme, says, “The Darwin team are critical to services in the Northern Territory. Not only in Darwin and Alice Springs, but we deliver the vast outreach services to over 100 remote communities. The team feels safe and happy coming to our new location every day. Our centre is also a second home to many other clinicians who fly in to support the delivery of outreach services and the Hearing Assessment Program - Early Ears. We've had a lot of positive feedback from the public about our new centre."
