What are supply chain ESG risk ratings?

EiQ's supply chain ESG risk ratings are, simply put, ratings for sourcing countries/regions, products, or individual supply chain sites that are based on a combination of audit performance data and supplemental risk data from trusted civil sources and adverse media alerts.

Risk ratings provide insights into the inherent risk exposure for various sustainability categories - such as labour, health and safety, and environmental risk, among others. Countries, products, or suppliers with ratings that denote high risk levels in say, labour risk, indicate there have been a higher number of critical audit violations associated with the labour category, perhaps instances of forced labour, child labour, or inhumane treatment.

The challenge with most risk ratings? They rely primarily on voluntary corporate disclosures, which lack independent verification and can be time consuming. This reduces consistency, comparability, and reliability of the ratings. Risk ratings help companies to make more informed decisions relating to the monitoring and management of their suppliers and how to prioritise high-risk areas in their supply chains.
