Healthcare is not a tech business
Last week, I shared a post that sparked more debate than I expected. It struck a nerve with founders, clinicians, technologists, and investors in the global HealthTech space.
Here’s why I think it resonated:
Most HealthTech startups operate like SaaS companies.
?? Build fast, ship fast, iterate fast.
?? Prioritize user acquisition over outcomes.
?? Optimise for scale before clinical adoption.
But healthcare doesn’t work that way.
In the comments of that post, one thing became clear:
The companies succeeding in HealthTech aren’t the ones treating healthcare like another vertical.
They’re the ones treating it like its own universe - with rules that can’t be copied from FinTech, SaaS, or eCommerce.
The debate is still ongoing, and the insights people are sharing are amazing.
If you want to join the conversation (add your own thoughts and expertise) - or just see how people in HealthTech think about this - here’s the link to the original post:

2 天前I am Doctor. I am not a physician. I agree that healthcare has not historically been a tech business but it should be. Healthcare is not a top-down business model driven by profits to investors and/or innovators in the product and pharmaceutical space. Rather, as the author states healthcare effectiveness is determined by two factors: mortality rates (live or die) and morbidity rates (level of disability or chronic pain). The economic and clinical indicator of public health system failure is infant and maternal death. Maternal and infant mortality is a biological marker that is influenced by the social determinants of health: poverty (economic opportunity), literacy (education), and housing and food insecurity…and politics. Should healthcare be a tech business? YES. Should the outcome of healthcare effectiveness be quarterly profits to shareholders? No. Should the outcome of healthcare be healthy families? YES. Should the delivery of healthcare require a E-team to decide whether to deny or delay care? NO.

3 天前I work with doctors. They aren't treated very well either. They are issued numbers of patients to see per day. They've told me 5000 sometimes. I don't know how that is possible

3 天前Healthcare truly can be built on trust, safety, and human complexity. However, the costs of most healthcare benefits providers are prohibitive for many families. Until now, LifeExec has collaborated with prominent medical benefit insurance providers to develop medical benefits plans that achieve savings of 50% - 60% for families on their medical benefits.
