Healthcare Skilled Trades: A Fulfilling Career That’s In-Demand

As hospitals and other healthcare organizations aim to move on from the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, many are struggling to find skilled professionals to fill critical roles. Recent data has shown that 85% of healthcare provider organizations are shorthanded of allied health professionals. These diverse medical professionals include many roles not filled by physicians or nurses, such as lab technicians, medical assistants, radiologists, and audiologists.?
If you’ve ever been to a hospital or health care facility for care, your life was in the hands of a medical laboratory professional or some other allied health professional. However, there is a critical shortage for some of these vital workers, a sizable gap that has only grown over the past few years.
One of the barriers that people who desire to serve as healthcare professionals face is the commitment and cost required to attend university and spend years getting a degree. However, with 1–2-year post-secondary programs, individuals can become a dental hygienist, surgical technician, phlebotomy technician, respiratory therapist, massage therapist to name a few.
It is a great way for young and ambitious students to get immediate hands-on work experience in a field that’s in demand.?
These skilled positions are expected to remain in demand for the foreseeable future, and to meet the demand we need to see more young people consider a career in these health and medical fields. With the shortage of healthcare professionals, the increase in the number of baby boomers retiring from healthcare professions, and the increase in access to affordable healthcare, we are at the precipice of a healthcare crisis.?
These macroeconomic conditions serve as the underpinnings for our decision to acquire Concorde Career Colleges, a leading provider of healthcare education programs focused on preparing students for successful professions in the healthcare sector. Concorde currently offers more than 20 programs, in areas such as dental hygiene, healthcare administration, surgical technology, massage therapy, and many others. Through these training programs, we hope to bridge the gap, helping more young people find fulfilling careers that touch the lives of others.?
